Luminary Opens: A New School Lights the Way
This August, OCPS opened Luminary Elementary, a new state-of-the-art school located in the Lake Nona area. The school is the second elementary constructed using the district’s new prototype design, which brings the best possible school to students at the least cost to local taxpayers.
To celebrate the new campus with her community, Luminary Elementary principal, Laura Permenter, opened the school’s doors during a Sneak Peek before school started in August.
“We were very thrilled and slightly overwhelmed to see the amazing outpouring of support from our community during the Sneak Peek,” Permenter said. “Everyone, especially our students, were so excited by the new campus and that they couldn’t wait for the first day of school.”
Roughly 500 people showed up to get their first look at the new campus, which sits on nearly 10 acres of property, has capacity for 837 students and boasts science and computer lab spaces, covered play areas and an enhanced administrative suite.
