OCPS Photographer Frank Weber: A Snapshot
If you’ve ever heard the click of a camera at an OCPS event, it’s probably Frank Weber behind it – cracking jokes, capturing moments and somehow making even the most camera-shy principal or teacher smile.
As the official OCPS photographer, Frank has snapped everything from first-day kindergarten photos to graduations. He’s the guy everyone knows, but few ever see in front of the lens. So, we’re flipping the script and putting him in focus.
How long have you been a photographer, and what first got you interested in it?
I’ve been behind the lens for over 42 years now. My fascination with photography started early when I received my first “real” camera at 13 — a Canon TX. I fell in love with the process immediately, and believe it or not, that same camera still works!
You’ve got a gift for getting everyone — from kindergartners to the superintendent — to smile for the camera. What’s your secret?
I try to treat everyone the same, from tiny tots to CEOs. Don’t be intimidated by the title. Just ask for a smile. It’s easy!
You’ve been to hundreds of schools and events. What’s one OCPS moment you’ll never forget?
Too many to narrow it down. Seeing the smiles on kids' faces when they see worms in dirt for the first time, kids defending their chess move at a tournament, hitting that perfect note in chorus and of course the scholars walking on stage to fulfill their dreams.
What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
I pack the same lunch each day, and I act surprised when I look in my lunchbox. If you’re curious, normally I have a banana, mixed nuts, yogurt with fruit, cheese sticks, and chips. I’m excited about my food like a Golden Retriever.
You’re usually the one taking the pictures. How do you feel when someone turns the camera on you?
One, it’s not necessary. Two, feel free — but I might judge the photo.
If you could photograph any moment — past, present, or future — what would it be and why?
The 24-hour Rolex Race in Daytona would be cool, but the absolute number one thing would be to be a photographer on Sig Hansen’s boat on The Deadliest Catch. I love the ocean and I’d love to push myself to the limits as a photographer and photograph under incredibly harsh conditions. That would be a dream.
