Helmet Hair, Don’t Care: Meet OCPS’ Motorcycle Enthusiasts
By day, they’re dedicated leaders. By weekend, they’re chasing the horizon on two wheels. Meet three OCPS employees who share a passion for motorcycles and how riding fuels their lives beyond their day job.
Brian Sanchez Corona, principal of Horizon High School, got into motorcycles during his first year teaching at College Park Middle in 2004.
“I decided to start my new job with a new vehicle (on a whim). I purchased a Kawasaki Ninja 250 without any experience,” he said. “I was hooked on the feeling on day one!”
He now owns a Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR 4 Cylinder Supersport and often rides it to school.
Sanchez Corona says riding gives him time to reflect and decompress. It’s even influenced how he approaches his role as a principal. Like on the road, he’s constantly scanning for potential obstacles and adjusting in real time.
“No matter how crazy the ride gets,” he says, “I always try to smile and enjoy it.”
And if you see him on a weekend ride, chances are there’s a Coke Zero Polar Pop nearby — his go-to pit stop treat.
As for his bucket list adventure? “I would love to ride The Road to Hana in Maui, Hawaii! I’ve done it by car, but I would love to experience it on my ZX4RR.”
OCPS District Police Lieutenant Francina Ogburn was introduced to riding in the ‘90s as a passenger alongside her husband, Ocoee Police Chief Vincent Ogburn.
On their 22nd wedding anniversary, he surprised her with a Harley Heritage Softail Deluxe.
Though she eventually traded in her bike to buy a car for their daughter heading to college, Francina still rides as a passenger on her husband’s 2016 Road Glide and their retired law enforcement friends.
“It gives me pure wind therapy and joy,” she said. “It’s less about transportation and more about a complete, full-sensory experience. It gives me a physical and mental escape.”
One trip she’ll never forget was a group ride to Jacksonville while waiting to hear about a job promotion.
“My phone lit up with an 850-area code – the call I’d been waiting for. I missed it at first, but the next morning at Denny’s, the Colonel called again. When I hung up, everyone at the table cheered.”
For Francina, riding reflects her personality: carefree, adventurous and always seeking freedom.
Staci Neal, Senior Director of Student Enrollment, fell in love with motorcycles about ten years ago and now owns a 2019 Harley Davidson Electra Glide.
“I love a Harley. Doesn’t matter the make or model as long as the pipes are loud,” she said.
Staci rides with her parents and friends, including fellow OCPS employees. Her summer rides have taken her as far as California and Canada!
Her favorite stretch? The Tail of the Dragon in North Carolina – 11 miles, 318 curves and unforgettable views.
“I’m an adrenaline junkie. The curves are amazing to ride and can be scary, but the views are magnificent.”
She also loves the culture that comes with the ride. “There aren’t any discriminations – doctors, lawyers, rich, poor, it doesn’t matter your color. If you ride, we are family and we look after each other.”
And before every trip, she follows a simple ritual: a prayer and a pump-up song.
“I always sing or play Unstoppable by Sia,” she said. “Because ‘I put my armor on, show you how strong I am… I’m a Porsche with no brakes.’”
From scenic backroads to cross-country journeys, these OCPS riders prove that adventure doesn’t stop when the workday ends. It just shifts gears.
